... and this is just the beginning.
What is being done to the Earth is criminal but - shockingly - it is not yet a crime. Atrocities such as the decimation of the Amazon rainforest or the devastating toxic pollution inflicted by tar sands extraction and fracking only happen because there is no law to prevent or prohibit them.
But there can be.
It’s time we aligned the force of LAW with the force of LIFE. Let’s make it a crime to destroy the Earth.
The route is simple and powerful, and YOU, as an Earth Protector, can help make it happen. Anyone - of any age - can sign up and help fund this law. All you need is an email address and access to a payment card.
THE SIMPLE, POWERFUL ROUTE TO PROTECTING OUR EARTH:
MAKE ECOCIDE A CRIME
Let’s add ECOCIDE to the list of international crimes at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague. Ecocide is serious loss, damage or destruction of ecosystems, and includes climate or cultural damage as well as direct ecological damage.
CEOs & MINISTERS CAN THEN BE PROSECUTED
Establishing a crime of ecocide ensures that persons of superior responsibility - eg CEOs and government ministers - become individually criminally responsible for serious damage which they recklessly cause or contribute to. This puts an end to the state-sanctioned immunity currently enjoyed by industrial polluters.
STRAIGHTFORWARD AMENDMENT TO EXISTING LAW
Any member state, however small, can propose an amendment to the International Criminal Court's governing document, the Rome Statute. Once tabled, it cannot be vetoed. When two thirds of ICC members sign up to it, it becomes law.
WHO CAN DO IT?
Those with the greatest incentive to make this powerful legal amendment - small island nations at the frontline of pollution-driven climate change - already have the legal ability to do it. All that is required are the funds.
With your help and ours. All who deeply care about protecting our beautiful Earth - of any age, from anywhere in the world - are invited to become signatories to the Earth Protectors Trust Fund, and gift funds to support small island states progressing the law. Our team is already in dialogue with these island nations.
Signing this document and becoming an Earth Protector in law (Trustee of the Earth) is easy and completely free of ongoing obligations or liabilities. It can also help those standing up to protect the Earth and their communities.
