Stop Ecocide Foundation’s statement to the 20th Session of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, December 2021, written and delivered here by Jojo Mehta, Chair of the Stop Ecocide Foundation and Co-founder & Executive Director of Stop Ecocide International.

The statement was also delivered in person during the General Debate of the Assembly on 8th December in The Hague by Katy Olivia van Tergouw, our Netherlands director.

Ecocide: a fifth crime defined (English version) - official ICC side event 7th Dec 2021 (07/12/2021)

An historic event co-hosted by three of the world's most climate-vulnerable states, Vanuatu, Samoa and Bangladesh: the presentation of the legal definition of ecocide as a 5th international crime, in the context of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.

IUCN World Congress: Press Conference on Ecocide

This press conference Friday 10th Sept 2021 followed the unprecedented use of an IUCN rule allowing Stop Ecocide International to challenge IUCN's rejection of a motion on supporting the establishment of an international crime of ecocide by the Congress.

Described by participant IUCN veteran Professor Nicholas A Robinson as the "most important press conference of the Congress", speakers included Professor Philippe Sands QC, barrister and co-chair of the Independent Expert Panel for the Legal Definition of Ecocide, Jojo Mehta, Co-Founder & Executive Director of Stop Ecocide International, and Shirleen Chin, Strategic Projects Lead for Stop Ecocide (who used the rule to raise the challenge).
